When I started reporting my dividend income in 2019 I was publishing monthly reports. I decided to go to quarterly reports for 2020 as it is just more time efficient for me and as you can see from January, there are months that I would really have nothing to talk about. So going forward these will be published quarterly.
I ended 2019 with a total dividend income of $4334.00. My goal for 2020 is to reach $6,500. That would be a 50% increase over my 2019 total. It is a lofty goal to be sure but if i remain diligent and continue to make smart investment decisions, I believe it can be achieved. I will need to invest nearly $80,000 in dividend stocks this year, in order to even come close.
When I set the goal, I did quick simple math of 3% of $80,000 is $2400. $2400 plus the $4300 I did last year and blamo, $6,700 is the goal. I was so excited I forgot to consider that I will not be investing $80,000 all at once in January but rather over the course of the year, the majority of which I wont receive until October which is when I receive the bulk of my compensation from work.
Still, I have set this goal and I am not going to change it, I will simply work harder to achieve it.
The COVID 19 Impact
Quite alot has changed since I last published a dividend report in December of 2019. The corona virus has had a huge impact on not only our economy but the world we live in.
My hope is that we will bounce back from this and become stronger for it. Not only financially but as a society.
Lets take a look at where I stand after the first quarter of the year.
January 2020
Stock Symbol | Dividend Income |
DIA | $33.66 |
Total | $33.66 |
February 2020
Stock Symbol | Dividend Income |
SPY | $79.50 |
T | $54.80 |
GIS | $10.41 |
VZ | $50.17 |
COST | $646.72 |
DIA | $5.40 |
TOTAL | $847.00 |
March 2020
Stock Symbol | Dividend Income |
LB | $34.09 |
IBM | $168.06 |
VYM | $106.13 |
DIA | $31.37 |
JWN | $37.35 |
KHC | $35.02 |
TOTAL | $412.02 |
$1292.68
That is my total dividend income for the first quarter of 2020. I expect to receive at least $5000 this year even if I don’t make my goal of $6500. That is not bad for someone who got a late start on dividend investing.
