This is not a normal blog post. It is not meant to grab headlines, rank on google or get hits. It is just my random thoughts that I need to get out.
Where do I start. I’m not sure what this article is about even as I start to write. I’m not even sure posting on my blog is even the right thing to be doing right now.
Since the last post I made the world has been turned upside down. As of my writing this sentence (8am Sunday morning March 22, 2020) there are a reported 315,267 people sick with COVID 19 in the world. 13,590 have died from it and the numbers continue to rise.
In the US we are approaching 27,000 sick and growing each day about 30 and on some days as much as 50%. It is expected that over 100 million will get sick and countless hundreds of thousands if not millions will die in the US from this horrible virus that seemingly came out of nowhere to change our world.
Right now things look bleak, and I would love to sit here and confidently write an article that tells you to be “Unshakable” as one of my mentors Tony Robbins says to be in tough times but I just don’t know. The world has never seen anything like this.
Our society appears to be collapsing before our very eyes. Economies are coming to a halt, little by little institutions are shutting down and we are being locked in our homes. The people who you do see out you don’t want to interact with for fear they will cough in your general direction. So far, other than the mad crowds out shopping for toilet paper, we seem to be maintaining our composure. Sure you hear the odd story of theft and violence, but that will always be there. On the whole, given the circumstances, I think we are doing OK.
My fear is that it simply has not sunk in yet how bad this truly is and the worst is yet to come. For the sake of my three toddlers I hope I am wrong and society continues to handle this mostly with grace. However I have seen too much in my life to remain optimistic.
In the back of my mind I am hopeful and confident that, although it may take a long time, our economy will bounce back and I will regain my losses. But this is no longer about money. For me, none of this was ever about money. It was about the way of life, the freedom to do what you want, that money can provide. That seems to be eroding day by day.
For the sake of humanity I hope we overcome this with as little change to our way of life as possible. I hope the death toll remains low.
I hope the hospitals get the staffing and supplies they so desperately need.
I hope the heroes of this ordeal are properly rewarded.
I hope this never happens again.
I hope social distancing ends soon and I hope to see my friends again
I hope the economy rebounds and we all get rich
I hope we learn from all the mistakes we made and NEVER allow this to happen again
I hope this ultimately brings us closer together as individuals and as countries
I hope our leaders don’t use this as another opportunity to loot the public’s bank accounts and liberties
